Please Note: Sanitary Permits Must be Obtained Prior to Any Construction on the Premises (Penalties Applied if Ignored)
  • Residential construction, habitation, occupancy, etc. is required to comply with basic State sanitary regulations.
  • A Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (POWTS, Septic System) is required if...
               1.) Water is supplied to a habitable structure OR
               2.) Plumbing/fixtures are present in a structure (water closets, sinks, baths/showers, laundry facilities, piping (supply/drain), etc.)
  • Crawford County Ordinance: Chapter 15 (applies to all unsewered property)

POWTS Maintenance and Servicing 
  • All POWTS must be evaluated at least once every three years by a WI licensed:
            ​     1.) DNR certified septage servicing operator (pumper)
                 2.) Master Plumbers/Journeyman
​                 3.) POWTS inspector/maintainer
  • Servicing (pumping) must be performed by a WI DNR certified septage servicing operator (pumper). 
  • Septic tanks must be serviced at least when sludge & scum occupies 1/3 of the tank volume.
  • Holding tanks must be serviced at least when the wastewater reaches a level of one foot below the inlet.
  • POWTS not maintained in accordance with SPS 383.54 shall be considered a human health hazard.

                3.) POWTS Per Capita/Occupancy Sizing Affidavit must be recorded on the Deed.
  • If one of the three apply to your property, please click the one that applies below, complete the form and submit a copy and check to the Zoning Department located at the Crawford County Administration Building. A fee of ​$30 is applied to Deed Restrictions that can be made out to "Crawford County Register of Deeds".
