Register of Deeds News
New Recording Fees
2010 Wisconsin Act 314 was passed into law and becomes effective June 25, 2010.
This law changes the recording fee of $11.00 for the first page plus $2.00 each additional page to a flat fee of $25.00 per document. The new law affects only those documents covered under s.59.43(2)(e) subject to s.59.72(5). Additionally, Act 314 requires the Register if Deeds to make a reasonable effort to redact social security numbers from and instrument's electronic format that are viewable or accessible on the internet.
In order to assist the Register of Deeds with cost associated with the redaction process, the legislation imposes an additional $5.00 fee per document. The additional $5.00 fee will sunset in 2012 unless an annual extension is granted to the Register of Deeds by the Wisconsin Department of Administration until January 1, 2015.
Therefore, effective Friday June 25, 2010 the fee to record documents in Crawford County covered under s.59.43(2)(ag)1 and 59.43(2)(e) subject to s.59.72(5) will be $30.00.
